I am a geographer and restoration ecologist by training. Although born in the northeastern U.S., I grew up in the Brazilian Amazon, and a large part of my childhood was spent traveling to remote villages while my parents worked on a hospital boat. This experience inspired a profound commitment to understanding the interactions between people and their environment, and a dedication to ecosystem restoration, rural development, and promoting food security. I currently teach restoration ecology, geographic information systems, and human dimensions of resource management at California State University Channel Islands. My goal is to advance research in coupled human-environment systems and train the next generation of restoration ecologists and development practitioners.
